SASBi - SAGS Joint Congress 2016:
Bridging the gap: Decoding genetics for integration and applicationCongress dates:Tuesday 20 September – Friday 23 September 2016
Introduction to your hostsWe are delighted to announce the 4th Joint Congress of the South African Society for Bioinformatics (SASBi) and the South African Genetics Society (SAGS), to be held from 20 to 23 September 2016. After a successful 2014 conference hosted by the University of Pretoria, which was held off campus at the beautiful Kwalata Game Ranch north of Pretoria, the Joint SASBi-SAGS Congress will be hosted in 2016 by the prestigious Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban, South Africa.
The biennial SASBi and SAGS congresses are the premier national scientific meetings uniting scientists working in the overlapping disciplines of bioinformatics and genetics in South Africa. Participation in SASBi-SAGS-2016 will provide an exciting opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in both disciplines, and to network with members of the two societies and with leading international scientists who we have invited as plenary speakers.
Congress themeThe theme of the congress is Bridging the gap: Decoding genetics for integration and application
with an emphasis on the integration of diverse biological data to understand the function and evolution of biological systems from single gene to whole-genome levels towards an application across diverse fields. We are at the doorway to a promising future for bioinformatics and genomics research in South Africa. Both fields are accelerating and gaining momentum due to the flood of biological data being produced and exciting breakthroughs are awaiting us at the level of genes, genomes, and beyond.
ParticipantsWe are compiling a comprehensive scientific programme to meet the needs of all participants. Leading national and international scientists will share their research topics and present the latest and most significant developments in the field. Furthermore, the congress is an ideal platform for postgraduate students to present their research, and we will reserve slots for extensive postgraduate project presentations in each session.
Registration Fees and SponsorshipWe want to ensure that registration fees are affordable to delegates from South Africa and abroad. With this in mind, we appeal to potential Sponsors to support the Congress. Register here!
A wide variety of Sponsorship options are available. We will be happy to discuss these and, if necessary, customise them to suit the requirements of potential Sponsors.
ExhibitionOn behalf of the Joint SASBi/SAGS Organizing Committee, we hereby cordially invite you to attend, sponsor or exhibit at this exciting event.
All participants will be able to network and socialize far away from the office, laboratory or lecture halls.
Congress and Exhibition detailsWe encourage early registration and payment. If you have any questions at this stage that are not addressed on the website you are welcome to contact the organising committee: Nicolette Crozier ([email protected]) or Robyn Jacob ([email protected]).
